
Sibusiso Ntshiza is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the AHRI Population Science Unit. He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2024), an M Soc Sc from the same institution (2018), an MA from University College Dublin (2016), as well as an Honours degree (2015) and a Bachelor's degree (2014) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His research interests span climate change and health, small-scale farming, youth unemployment, higher education, local development, and workplace injury and sustainable work performance. His current research focuses on the socioeconomic and health impacts of extreme weather events on people living with HIV (S3E study), with an emphasis on strengthening climate resilience and informing evidence-based policy.
Before joining AHRI, Dr Ntshiza served as a South African Medical Research Council RCDI-Nested Postdoctoral Fellow and held management positions at Refugee Social Services, where he worked as both Monitoring and Evaluation Manager and Project Manager on research funded by the Wellcome Trust and the University of Exeter. Throughout his career, he has also worked as a research technologist, research assistant, M&E specialist, academic development officer, writing tutor, translator, and foreign exchange coordinator across institutions including the South African Medical Research Council, the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the Brien Holden Vision Institute, and the National Research Foundation.
Dr Ntshiza has published several peer-reviewed scientific articles, serves as a reviewer for academic journals, and has successfully co-supervised three Honours students at the University of Fort Hare.
