Brighton and Sussex Medical School

Emily Snowden is a PhD researcher at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (UK), with an interdisciplinary background spanning philosophy and ethics, international politics, human rights and psychology. She holds an MA in International Politics, an MSc in Psychology, and has worked as a Trainee Clinical Associate Psychologist.

Her global health research has taken her from documenting women's experiences of maternal health and flooding in Ghana, to supporting tropical medicine clinical trials in West Africa, community-based water and sanitation research in India and capacity building in Papua New Guinea.

As part of the ASTRA programme, Emily's PhD explores how health systems can become more resilient to extreme weather events. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, her research evaluates the value for money of resilience interventions, generating evidence to support smarter, fairer resource allocation that considers not only costs and health outcomes, but also equity, access to healthcare, and long-term system resilience.
